Privacy Policy

Pitch Checker ("the app") is an ear-training app: you record yourself singing a note from memory, hear the reference, and log the note you think you sang. The short version of this policy: your recordings, journal and settings stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded to the developer.

Who runs this

Pitch Checker is an independent app made by a single developer. Questions about privacy or your data can be sent to pitchchecker (at) unfoldmusicapp (dot) com.

Microphone and recordings

The app asks for microphone permission when you start a take. The microphone is opened for that take and closed when it ends or the app goes into the background. If you deny access, you can still play the reference and log your own assessment without a recording.

Audio is processed on your device: the app trims silence at the ends and adjusts the playback level when saving a take. Recordings are stored as WAV files on your device and linked to the journal entry. The app does not perform pitch detection, speech transcription or voice identification, and does not grade your recording automatically.

What the app stores

For each check: the target note, the note you report singing, the resulting grade, the date and time (with your time-zone offset), how many times you played the reference, which reference sound you used, any text note you add, and a link to the saved recording. These entries, your settings and any practice reminder times are kept in a database on your device.

No uploads or tracking

  • There is no account, sign-in, server or cloud sync.
  • Recordings, journal entries and settings are never uploaded to the developer.
  • There is no analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking SDK of any kind.
  • Practice reminders are scheduled as local notifications on your device; no push service is involved.

Sharing, exports and backups

You can choose to export your journal as a CSV file (it contains entries and text notes, not audio), share an individual recording from the Journal, or find your takes in the Files app under On My iPhone › Pitch Checker › takes. Anything you share goes only where you send it, and is handled by that destination under its own privacy practices.

Your device may include the app's data and recordings in its own backups, depending on your settings.

Deleting your data

Undo removes your most recent check and its recording. Deleting an entry in the Journal also deletes its recording. Uninstalling the app removes all of its data from your device; copies you've exported or shared are separate. You can turn off microphone access at any time in your device settings.

Children

The same on-device, no-upload design applies to everyone. The app has no public profiles, messaging or sharing feed, and collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Contacting support

If you email for help, the information in your message is used only to reply. Please don't attach a recording or journal content unless you want to.

Changes to this policy

If the app's data practices change, this policy will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change.
